ABOUT JUNIOR HOME RUN DERBY
Major League Baseball® Jr. Home Run Derby™ provides youngsters across the country an opportunity to showcase their hitting skills in an exciting, free, grassroots home run derby contest. Local winners will compete in a regional competition for a chance to hit at the national finals during MLB® All-Star Week.™
One champion from each age group (14U and 12U) will advance from the local competition to the regional competition and from the regional competition to the national finals. The Regional Champions in each age group (14U and 12U) will compete for the National Championship during MLB® All-Star Week.™
- Local Competitions (Early 2016 thru Early May)
- Regional Competitions (Mid May – Mid June)
- National Finals (July)
- Two divisions: 12U and 14U (see age determination below)
- Players will hit off of a pitching machine to ensure consistency of delivery
- Players will each receive 10 swings
- NOTE: Any swing that does not result in a home run counts. This includes foul balls.
Tiebreaker: In the event of a tie (only for the championship) a five (5)-swing hit-off will determine the champion. If the initial swing-off does not determine a winner or again creates tie, additional five-swing hit-offs will be held until a champion is determined.

A part of Play Ball Indiana’s vision and mission is to help develop the youth into “Major League Citizens”. In order to truly reach the youth in Indianapolis, the prospective talent and help improve their quality of life both on the ball field and in the game of life we rely on the generous time and energy put into our program by our family of volunteers.
